Disability Rights Act Simplified (DRAS) Series

The Disability Rights Act Simplified (DRAS) Series is a specialized legal literacy program designed to move the community from awareness to action.

By breaking down the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, we equip Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and their allies with the exact legal tools needed to challenge barriers in every sector of public life.

The curriculum is delivered through three high-impact modules:
PART 1: Stop the Gatekeepers — Education & Employment Rights; This module tackles the systemic barriers in the professional and academic worlds.

The 5% Quota: Navigating Section 29 to ensure fair representation in public sector jobs.

Reasonable Accommodation: Understanding the legal obligations of schools and workplaces to provide specialized materials and support.

Proving Discrimination: Training on what constitutes legally acceptable evidence during recruitment or promotion.

PART 2: Beyond the Ramp — Accessibility & Transport Enforcement; Focused on physical and logistical inclusion, this session empowers participants to audit their environments.

Compliance Deadlines: Understanding the legal consequences for building owners who fail to meet accessibility standards.

Travel Rights: Precise legal recourse for PWDs facing refusal or obstacles from airlines and public transport operators.

Actionable Audits: Identifying the non-negotiable legal minimums for ramps, signage, and public restrooms.

PART 3: Grievance to Justice — Filing Complaints & Seeking Redress; The final pillar focuses on the mechanics of justice and the protection of personal dignity.

Protection of Dignity: Utilizing Section 1 to challenge verbal abuse, emotional discrimination, and derogatory treatment.

Navigating the NCPWD: A step-by-step guide to the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities complaint process to avoid case dismissal.

Strategic Redress: Choosing between mediation and court action to secure public apologies, sanctions, or financial damages.
